Oxlajujthe thirteen skies
In short
- In the bands of numbers, the 13 is the most intense: the most mature and serious.
- There are thirteen great joints in the body and, in the tradition, thirteen levels of the sky.
- For one ajq'ij today, the 13 has enormous strength, but it only turns positive after being presented in a ceremony.
- People born on a 13 day tend to come with large spiritual gifts.
1. The highest number
Oxlajuj means thirteen, the highest number in the count. In the Momostenango bands, it closes the intense group: the most mature and the most serious.
The number sets the measure of the reading. 13 Kame can be a huge success or a message from a very ancient ancestor; and the Toj days that fall on the 13th round of an offering day carry enormous strength, for good and for ill.
In divination, 13 Toj is a serious case, handed over to an ajmesa.
The 13 closes the count with everything it has gathered.
2. The thirteen heavens and the 13 days
The body has thirteen great joints, from the neck to the ankles. And, in the tradition, the sky has thirteen levels.
For one ajq'ij today, the 13 has enormous strength, but it only becomes positive after being presented in a ceremony. She singles it out, alongside the 4, among all the numbers.
Some 13 days have a reputation of their own. 13 Tz'ikin is remembered as a good day for money and business; 13 B'atz' tends to be a day for joining couples; and 13 Kan goes by the nickname Angry Thirteen. The lists of special 13 days change from one voice to another, and only 13 Tz'ikin appears on all of them.
On the 13, the strength arrives whole; the care is up to you.
3. Born on a 13 day
People born on a 13 day tend to arrive with large spiritual gifts, or to grow them without much trouble. When they set those gifts aside, life tends to weigh on them.
The reading of the 13 tends to tie it to the craft of those who count the days: giving counsel, sensing what is coming, reading signs. That is why some recommend the 13 days for meditating, cultivating gifts and consulting an ajq'ij.
In some communities, it is said that someone of great spiritual power could have up to thirteen animal companions: the 13 marks the ceiling.
Whoever is born on the 13 lives close to the last heaven.
