Aq'ab'al — the dawn
Aq'ab'al in K'iche' · Ak'bal in Yucatec · Night seal in the Dreamspell
the dawn·the light after the dark·fresh starts
You were born on the day of the dawn. Aq'ab'al is the first ray that strikes the top of the hill and undoes the night, and it is also the very darkness that ray comes to break. Both live in the same name. The Popol Wuj tells of the world's first dawn: the fathers of the K'iche' people see the morning star, burn copal for the rising sun, and every animal rejoices. You carry that hour: you know the dark from the inside, and you know it ends.
