Tone 10, Lajuj

Lajuj, the 10, is the number of the two hands. Being even, it speaks of working together, of family and of the common law; being high, it already weighs in divination.

In short

  • The 10 stands for both hands and all ten fingers: working together and living in common.
  • It stays outside the three bands, but in divination it already keeps company with the high numbers.
  • Being even, it sits on the side of the stable numbers.
  • People born on a 10 day tend to seem stable while keeping a fragility inside.

1. Even like the calm ones, high like the strong ones

Lajuj means ten. Like 4, 5 and 6, it falls into none of the three Momostenango bands. In divination, though, it already goes with the high numbers: 10 Aq'ab'al answers no, and 10 K'at points to an old debt.

Being even, the 10 sits on the side of the balanced numbers. Hence its tension: stable because it is even, heavy because it is high. Some count it among the numbers that are too strong.

The 10 has the calm of the even and the weight of the high.

2. The two hands

The image of the 10 tends to be a pair of hands: ten fingers, people doing a job side by side. From that image come cooperation, family, life lived in society and the bond of a couple.

That is why the 10 tends to stand for the law shared by all, justice and order, and also for the ties between people, with the ups and downs of winning and losing in everything done.

These images come from a single voice, that of an ajq'ij who explained the numbers one by one. That is why the page tells them as a leaning, not as a rule.

One hand washes the other, and together they make the 10.

3. Born on a 10 day

People born on a 10 day tend to seem as stable as the even numbers, while holding a great fragility inside.

In practice, this often looks like the person who holds the group together, organises the family and keeps their word, and who rarely asks for help when they are the one in need.

Like every tone, the 10 adds to the nawal of the day, and tends to give it hands for working together.

Whoever holds everyone else's hand can also reach out their own.
